During the 2010 BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) Conference in June, delegates in Whistler unanimously approved two policy resolutions - including a call for an independent review of the BC Healthcare Benefit Trust (HBT). This resolution supported a similar recommendation from BCCPA in their 2009 Action Plan.
Following the Conference, BCCPA officials met with BC Finance Minister Colin Hansen. Shortly after, the issue was referred to the Ministry of Social Development. We are pleased to report an independent review of HBT's operations has now been completed. BCCPA is reviewing the report's findings to determine if our policy resolution's goal has been achieved. The results will be finalized and released to BCCPA members later this fall.
In the meantime, BCCPA officials continue to work with HBT to secure insurance alternatives for care providers and resolve outstanding issues around the exit fees HBT attempted to impose earlier this year. In the meantime BCCPA is supporting members who have decided not to pay the exit fee until outstanding issues are resolved. Watch this site for more updates in the coming weeks.
