The provincial government is calling it an effort to make residential care more equitable to seniors----this in an announcement that 75 percent of seniors will have to pay more, with the lower income earning remainder paying less.
Ed Helfrich is the CEO of BC Care Providers Association and says he hopes the additional revenue generated from the rate hike goes toward the betterment of seniors care. "With this additional revenue, i think thats an obligation that, that money gets reinvested and actually provide better quality and improvements in seniors care."
Helfrich says the reduction for the lower income earning seniors is modest---however the move will generate 54 additional million dollars. Higher income seniors are being defined in this situation as those earning 22-thousand dollars or more a year.
Helfrich was a guest on CFAX with Adam Striling this afternoon.
