An expert from the Urban Futures Institute is predicting a grey future for BC.
In a presentation to the BC Business Council 2020 Summit, David Baxter says the Province needs to gear up for a population shift.
He says one third of the Province is currently between 40 and 65 years old, and with a low birth rate, there will be a massive burden on people of working age, "In our minds, we have an image of a seniors population that's predominantly female. In the future, it's going to be predominantly males and females, couples. And that's going to change housing, the delivery of social services, there's just going to be more old farts to spend health care money on."
He predicts older people will end up working longer.
