The BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) today welcomed Premier Gordon Campbell's appointment of the Honourable Kevin Falcon as the province's new Minister of Health.
At the same time, BCCPA CEO Ed Helfrich congratulated former Minister George Abbott for his years of service to improve the health care system in BC. The following is a complete statement from Mr. Helfrich:
"On behalf of our members across the province, I want to congratulate Premier Gordon Campbell for his appointment of Hon. Kevin Falcon as BC's new Minister of Health.
Minister Falcon's energy and track record of success will be a significant asset as we work to solve the challenges of the health care system and an aging society together. As the MLA for Surrey-Cloverdale, Mr. Falcon has been very responsive to care providers in the community.
In the coming months, the BCCPA looks forward to working with Minister Falcon to enhance the quality of seniors' care in BC, improve safety standards, respond to the Ombudsman's upcoming report and secure a reliable supply of health care workers in light of the aging society.
I also want to thank and congratulate Hon. George Abbott for his years of service on the health file. Minister Abbott has been one of the hardest working and most accessible Health Ministers we can remember. We wish him the best of luck in his new responsibilities."
BCCPA has been representing not-for-profit and private seniors' care providers in BC for over 30 years. Our members represent one-third of all funded long term care beds in BC. They care for over 10,000 seniors each day and employ more than 7,000 workers in every region of the province.
